Emiko is made safe for children

1. One neutral age question

   After the first lesson, Emiko asks for the year of birth once, without hinting at a right answer. The year itself is not kept: the app only remembers whether a parent needs to sign in.

2. A parent signs in for the child

   Below the digital consent age of your country (13 in most countries, higher in some), Emiko asks the child to hand the device to a parent. A short gate with numbers written out in words keeps this step for grown-ups, and the parent signs in with their own account.

3. Nothing names your child

   Progress and game scores are kept under the parent's account, and nothing on our server names the child. Anyone who is not a friend sees only a playful generated name and avatar next to a score, and the few usage events the app sends are stored without any account identifier.

4. Friends, but no chat

   A child can have friends to compare stats with, never to talk to: there is no chat and there are no messages. A parent approves each friend request on the device, the child always appears under a generated name and avatar, and the child's real name stays on the device.

5. No ads and no outside trackers

   Emiko shows no ads to anyone, children or adults, and contains no advertising SDK. Usage never goes to an outside company: usage statistics go only to our own server.

6. The voice stays on the device

   In the speaking game, the phone listens with its own on-device speech recognition. The recording never leaves the device.

7. Purchases go through the store

   Every lesson, game and language is free. The optional Gold subscription is bought in the App Store or Google Play, so the store's parental controls, such as Ask to Buy and Family Link, apply.

8. Delete everything at any time

   On the Me page, “Delete account” removes the account and all saved progress from our server at once. A Gold subscription is cancelled separately in the store.
