Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-10-22
These terms govern your use of the Emiko app on iPhone, iPad, Android and watches, its web version, and this website. The service is provided by Yogame LLC, Wyoming, United States of America. By using Emiko you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy.
1. Who can use Emiko
Emiko is for everyone from 7 years old. Anyone below the digital consent age of their country uses the app with an account their parent signs in with, and the parent is responsible for the child's use of the app and for any purchase. Before anything about the child is kept on our server, the parent receives an email listing what we keep and agrees with its button; until then the app works on the device only. The parent can withdraw consent at any time with the link in the confirmation email, which deletes what we keep about the child, as the Privacy Policy explains.
2. Your account
You sign in with Apple, Google or a code sent to your email, and you can link more than one of these ways to the same account on the Me page. Keep your ways of signing in safe and do not share email codes with anyone. You can delete your account at any time from the Me page.
3. Free content and Gold
- Every lesson, game and language is free, and Emiko 1.0 shows no ads at all. The free plan keeps one language save with its progress; starting a new language replaces it, after a clear warning.
- “Gold” is an optional subscription with features that make learning faster and easier, such as unlimited hearts and more than one language save: up to 16 languages, each with its own progress. Its plan and its price in your currency are shown in the app and the store before you buy.
- The subscription renews automatically, yearly or monthly, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The yearly plan may start with a 7-day free trial. If you allow notifications, the app reminds you two days before the trial ends, and the App Store or Google Play may also remind you under its own rules; the trial's end date is shown on the Me page and in your store's subscription settings.
- Payment, cancellation and refunds go through the App Store or Google Play under their terms. After cancelling, Gold stays until the end of the paid period.
- When Gold ends, the language you are learning stays open, and your other language saves are locked and kept as they are, never deleted; they all come back when you renew.
- Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription in the store; cancel it in the store's settings.
4. Friends and rankings
- Learners with an account can add friends with a friend code or link. There is no chat, no messages and no free text between learners: friends see each other's learning stats only, as the Privacy Policy explains.
- By default everyone appears under a generated name. An adult may show their own name to their accepted friends only; public game leaderboards and weekly leagues always show the generated name, with the picture the learner chose among the app's characters, or a generated one. Whether a learner has Gold (a crown and a golden name) is shown to friends and to everyone else.
- Children's accounts created by a parent always use a generated name, show their Gold to their friends only, and a parent approves each friend request on the device.
- You can remove or block any friend at any time, and a learner you blocked cannot send you requests.
- Play fair: scores the game cannot produce are flagged and not ranked, and trying to cheat on the rankings breaks these terms.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use Emiko against the law, try to reach other people's accounts, disrupt our servers or flood them with automated requests, or take the app apart or copy its content except as far as the law allows.
6. Ownership
Emiko, its characters, drawings, voices and lesson texts belong to Yogame LLC or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-commercial licence to use the app as long as you follow these terms.
Some voices in Emiko are generated with the Kokoro model (Apache License 2.0). The French voice is based on the SIWIS French Speech Synthesis Database (J. Yamagishi, P.-E. Honnet, P. Garner and A. Lazaridis, University of Edinburgh, 2017; CC BY 4.0), and the Japanese voices are based on Koniwa (tnc; CC BY 3.0). These voices are produced by models trained on that data; they are not the original recordings.
7. The service as it is
We work to keep Emiko available and accurate, but we do not promise that it is free of errors or interruptions, nor any particular learning result. We may change and improve content and features.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damages arising from the use of Emiko. This does not limit the rights the consumer law of your country gives you that cannot be waived.
9. Ending use
You can stop using Emiko and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend an account that seriously breaks these terms, after telling its owner where possible.
10. App stores
If you downloaded Emiko from the App Store, these terms are between you and us, not Apple; Apple is not responsible for the app or its support, and as a third-party beneficiary Apple may enforce these terms. Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies where it does not conflict with these terms. The same applies, with the necessary changes, to Google Play.
11. Changes and law
If we change these terms we will publish the new version here with its date, and tell you in the app if the change matters. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming and the federal laws of the United States of America, without affecting the rights the law of your country of residence gives you.
